“Stop on red and go on green when driving.” These are road safety rules familiar to the ear, but do your preschool children know these rules? The age of 3 is the golden period for children’s strongest learning abilities and memory. You should protect your children’s safety, starting from education. Lihpao Racing Park in Taichung with the highest standards in Taiwan not only became the ideal training location for car fans, but also worked with the “Chinese Taipei Automobile Federation (CTAF)” to establish the first “Road Safety Education Center for Children.” CTAF is a formal member of FIA which is devoted to promoting safe driving. In response to the “#3500” long-term road safety promotion of the FIA, the Center is the only one in Taiwan that exclusively uses “Golden Rules” certified by FIA as road safety teaching materials. This is the Road Safety Education Center which introduced amusement park facilities imported from Europe for children to play and learn at the same time.
The newly opened “Road Safety Education Center for Children” located in Lihpao Racing Park in Taichung covering 2644.8 square meters introduced amusement park facilities imported from Europe. The “mini-excavator” is very popular among children.
Occupying land of 2644.8 square meters, the interior of the Center adopted a high-ceiling and bright design with childish cartoon graffiti such as The Tortoise and the Hare and traveling in space. The Center has nine major facilities with expenses ranging from NTD50–150 each, including arcade game machines, motion sensing and interactive games such as mini-racing, control racers, mini-excavator, bumper cars, laser maze and various educational toys for brainstorming. The top three most popular facilities are “Mini-Driving Class,” “mini-excavator” and “laser battlefield,” respectively.
The “Mini-Driving Class” with professional instructor assigned by CTAF is suitable for children of school age. Integrating road safety teaching material “Golden Rules” of FIA for situational experience, children are able to imitate and practice road safety rules in reality.
The coming “Mini-Driving Class” is suitable for children of school age with 1- and 2-seater types suitable for parent and children to have fun together. Integrating teaching materials such as traffic signals, traffic signs and reticle installed in the driving class with road safety material “Golden Rules” of FIA for situational experience, the professional instructor assigned by CTAF guides children to imitate and practice in reality situations they may encounter in daily life such as “stop on red and go on green when driving,” “give way to pedestrians” and “passing the intersection.” Each vehicle has seatbelts to provide safety protection during the experience, and also cultivates children’s good habit of following traffic rules from childhood. Besides promoting and implementing the road safety concept for children, CTAF also worked with a Japanese car rental company to promote notices and local traffic rules related to road trips in Japan in the Center. Also, CTAF will establish a section for international road trip information in the future in the hope of providing more road safety knowledge for the domestic public via this information platform.
CTAF indicated, “According to the date of WHO, 500 children pass away because of traffic accidents every day around the world. The Road Safety Education Center is established to let more people recognize the importance of road safety. We hope parents can not only relax when children are playing but can also learn together to establish the correct protection knowledge regarding road safety with their children. CTAF will address more practical and important road-user education with international standards to advance with the times in the future.”
